Mrs. Jean Andrews Eager, 87 of Albany died April 1, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday April 4, 2014 at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Nancy Scarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
She was born August 1, 1926 to the late James Thomas Andrews and Mary Daniel Andrews of Atlanta, GA. She attended schools in Atlanta and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School for Girls, and attended the University of Georgia, where she majored in Journalism. She was on the staff of "The Red & Black" school newspaper and served her internship with the Atlanta Journal newspaper. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and Panhellenic Council.
Mrs. Eager was a member of the Georgia Historical Society; Thronateeska Heritage Society: served on board of the American Cancer Society for many years, She was president of the Albany Charity League; president of Palmyra Heights Garden Club; long time member of the Albany Symphony Guild; was vice regent of Thronateeska Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution; a member of the Suburban Women's Club and a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Eager lived in Valdosta for many years before moving to Albany. There she was a former member of Reader's Forum; Cotillion Club charter member and the Valdosta Junior Service League.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Andrews Eager of Atlanta, Rebekah Eager Daniel of Sasser, GA and Virginia Ware Eagar of Chattanooga, TN, her grandchildren, Louis Emil Girardin, Jr., Kameron Andrews Girardin, Cristen Daniel, Martha Daniel, Jon Eager Daniel, Holly and Hunter Eager, Rett and Evans Smith and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Morehead Eager who died October 2003 and her son, Eugene Morehead Eager, Jr who died November 2010.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
