Mr. John Samuel "Sammy" Murphy, III 71 of Jackson, TN former longtime resident of Albany died June 15, 2014 at Jackson-Madison County Hospital in Jackson, TN.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 AM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors. Rev. Bobby Harrell officiating.
Mr. Murphy was born in Albany in 1942 to the late John Samuel Murphy, Jr. and Ernestine Arrington Murphy. He was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church and was retired from the Albany Police Department with 27 years of service. Following his retirement from the police department he also worked for Mike Ward at Economy Drugs for several years and owned Murphy Catering. Mr. Murphy loved the outdoors and was an avid Atlanta Brave's fan. He will always be remembered for the love he gave to his family and friends especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Ronnie Murphy.
Survivors include his wife Connie W. Murphy of Jackson, TN, daughter, Lady Harcrow and her husband Kelly of Leesburg, son, Ladd Murphy and his wife Donna of Albany grandchildren, Tiffani, Katie and Sam Harcrow, brothers, Harold Murphy and his wife Joanne of Leesburg and Tim Murphy and his wife Jodea of Leesburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
