Mrs. Marion Glenn Westmoreland, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at her home.
Her funeral service will be Saturday 12 noon at Byne Memorial Baptist Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday 11 to funeral hour at Byne Memorial Baptist Church.
Mrs. Westmoreland was born April 7, 1919 in Warren County, NC to Walter and Marion Watkins. As 1937 graduate of Middleburg High School in Middleburg, NC, she was the salutatorian of her class.
She married Thomas A. Glenn October 28, 1938 and moved to Pelham, GA before moving to Albany in 1949. Mr. Glenn died in 1972, they were married for 34 years. Born to this union were four children, Shirley, Sue and two sons who died after birth. The deceased sons were Thomas A. Glenn, III and Thomas A. Glenn, IV.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn owned and operated Glenn's Hardware from January 1955 to June 1972 when they sold the business to her daughter and son in law, Shirley and Phil Toole. She worked with Dougherty Building and Finance for 3 ½ years before going into business with her husband. In 1974, she took a four week world tour and visited the Holy Land with Byne Church in 1976.
June 1, 1950 Mrs. Westmoreland joined Byne Memorial Baptist Church and was very active for years. She taught Sunday School to young married women was a member of the WMU.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Glenn Toole and husband Phil J., Albany, Sue Glenn Peterson and husband Willis I., Marion, KS; grandchildren, Elizabeth Toole Tester and husband Randy, Daniel Glenn Toole, Melody Yvonne Smith, Melisa Yvette Dotson and husband Rob, SFC Michael Joe Toole and wife Michele; great grandchildren, Christopher Tester, Caitlin Tester, Abby Toole, Christian Toole, Elijah Toole, Nevan Toole, Madeleine Dotson, Nicholas Dotson, Jonothan Dotson and a faithful and loving caregiver, Brenda Ingram.
In 1977, Mrs. Glenn married William E. Westmoreland and they were married for 28 years before his death in 2005. With this marriage, Mrs. Westmoreland gained children, Mikell Westmoreland and wife Sandy, Lee County, Ray Westmoreland and wife Kitty, Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Andy W. Westmoreland, Chris Westmoreland, Tracy Marshall, Cathy Adams and Dale Westmoreland and a great grandchild.
