Mr. Stephen J. Kaplan, 67, of Albany, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Kaplan's funeral service will be at 11 AM on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Temple B'Nai Israel with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Rabbi Dr. Andy Dubin will officiate.

Mr. Kaplan was born in the Bronx, NY, and had lived in Albany since 1972. He was a member, Past Trustee, and Past President of Temple B'Nai Israel. He received his undergraduate degree from New York University, and graduated from the University of Georgia Law School. Mr. Kaplan became a partner in the law firm now known as Brimberry, Kaplan, and Brimberry, P.C. in 1974. He was a member of the Dougherty County Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Association, and the University of Georgia Gridiron Secret Society. Mr. Kaplan served as Vice Chairman of the Dougherty County Planning Commission, and he served on the Southwest Georgia Regional Planning Commission. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlet M. Kaplan.

Mr. Kaplan is survived by his son: Alex Kaplan and his wife April, Albany; 2 grandchildren: Dallas James Kaplan and Kellen Davis Kaplan, both of Albany; a sister: Marlene "Marsha" Caplan, Atlanta; niece: Blair Marks, Atlanta, nephew: Stuart Caplan, Nashville, TN, niece: Dale Harney, Atlanta.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Sunday from 2-4 PM.
