Larry Michael Davis, 55, of Albany died Saturday, January 21, 2012. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Gillionville Baptist Church. Concluding service and interment will follow at Park Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Columbus, Georgia at 3 p.m. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern. Rev. Tony Haefs and Rev. Giles Lovejoy will officiate.

A native of Columbus, Georgia, Mr. Davis graduated from Baker High School in 1974 and graduated from Columbus State University (formerly Columbus College) with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation he moved to Albany in 1979 where he began his employment with the Albany Police Department. He served in various capacities as a patrol officer, Detective, SWAT team member/leader, as well as in Planning and Training. He was a Police Academy Instructor from 1987 – 1989 teaching firearms and officer survival. In 1991 he became a Dougherty County Deputy Sheriff / investigator with Water, Gas and Light where he was presently employed having worked a total of 32 years in law enforcement. He was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church and a former member of Sherwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Patti Williams Davis of Albany, a daughter, Shannon Virginia Burch and her husband Matthew of Baker County, a son Brett Michael Davis of Albany, a daughter Kendyl Ellen Davis of Albany, and one grandchild, Shelbie Virginia Burch of Baker County. Mr. Davis was predeceased by his parents, Louie David Davis and Winifred Inez Corbett Davis.
